Sara Nelson Scholarship
Dr. Sara L. Nelson graduated from Georgia State College for Women (now known as Georgia College) in 1926 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a minor in chemistry. After receiving her Ph.D. in mathematics from Cornell University, she joined the faculty of Georgia College and was a beloved teacher of mathematics until her retirement in 1968. As a result of a generous endowment from Dr. Nelson, the Department of Mathematics awards several scholarships each academic year. The recipients are chosen by the Sara Nelson Scholarship Committee which is comprised of several members of the Department of Mathematics and the scholarship is deposited into the student’s GCSU account.
